Football stringers needed for the fall

The Burbank Leader and Glendale News-Press newspapers are looking for stringers to cover high school football teams in the fall.

Writers will cover the three local programs — Burbank, Burroughs and Bellarmine- Jefferson — as well as teams in the Glendale and La Crescenta area.

Individuals should have a knowledge of football, some writing experience and have samples of his or her work.

In addition, a knowledge of statistic keeping is a must. Writers would work mostly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Individuals will be paid for their work and have their stories appear in print.

Northridge Baseball Camps to be held

The 2009 Northridge Baseball Camp, presented by Cal State Northridge baseball Coach and Crescenta Valley resident Steve Rousey, is currently in the enrollment process.

The four-day day camp is designed to develop physical ability in the areas of arm strength, hitting for power and foot speed and evaluating skill levels in fielding, hitting and pitching.

The event is open to players 5-13 and is offered in three sessions — July 27-30, Aug. 3-6 and Aug. 10-13 — with daily hours of 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $260, or $220 prior to June 28 Lunch and snack will be provided.

In addition, a hitting camp will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. during the days of the camp. The cost is $20 per hour and is payable in cash on the day of the event.

The camp will be conducted at Matador Field on the campus of Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.
