Club honors state officers

Burbank Emblem Club No. 86 honored the California, Nevada, Hawaii, State Assn. President Bonnie Lewis, State Marshal Karen Magnusson-Moore, Burbank Emblem Club vice president, Joanne Vallone, and nine other state officers on “Aloha Hawaii” night at the Burbank Elks Lodge in July.

More than 50 members and guests from eight Southern California clubs sat down to a Hawaiian buffet supper prepared by chef Jim Ewart and his staff.

The event chairwoman was Elaine Paonessa, and co-chairwoman was Barbara Maslyk. Assisting them were members June Lynn, Ruth Nebergall, Ramona Higgins, Lee Addessi, Cookie Bentivegna, Irene Brandies and other members of the club.

The Emblem Club is affiliated with the Burbank Elks No. 1497 and supports many local charities.

BURBANK UNIVERSITY WOMEN RECRUITING

All female college graduates older than 55 can apply for membership in the Burbank University Women, a group that meets in this area and promotes education, intellectual growth and broadening opportunities for women and girls, and provides college scholarships for qualifying Burbank senior high school girls.

The Sept. 10 meeting will feature Jimmy Weldon, the TV voice of Yakky Doodle, the little duck on “The Yogi Bear Show.” His topic will be “Old Time Radio.”

A time of fellowship and refreshments will begin at 6:30 p.m. Meeting follows at 7 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room at the Joslyn Adult Center, 1301 W. Olive Ave., Burbank.
