A successful reform should also ensure that the costs of health care don’t threaten your family’s finances, that your doctor is paid for making you well and not ordering unnecessary tests, and that your health-care premiums are spent on actual care, not paying for piles of paperwork and red tape.

I believe these objectives can and must be met, and I am pushing for the inclusion of additional reforms to bring down the costs of health care in the reform package. After all, affordable, quality health insurance is the key to a productive work force, small business innovation, and the economic as well as health security of our families and nation.

Cheers to local medical center

More congratulations to the city of Burbank from my pen: This time it goes to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.

I went in for the cure of a variety of modest ailments recently. My experience was rewarding. I got very positive vibes from the employees. They were very helpful and generally with a smile. The food I received was very good and according to the traveling Rev. Sam Scriven, the hospital chaplain, it was home to one of the country’s best hospital kitchens.

It was cool temperature- wise in the hospital, which was a distinct advantage on a hot day. Who ordered this hot weather — Zeus? I think a big air-conditioning bubble over Los Angeles would be in order for our over-heated citizens.

I’m not saying I want to be ill, but if it happens, I’d like to be cared for in one of the country’s and state’s prized hospitals — Providence St. Joseph’s of Burbank. Keep up the good work.
