Fine results from invite

CROSS-COUNTRY

Burroughs, Burbank, Bellarmine-Jefferson in Kenny Staub Invitational: The locals had some fine results Saturday in the event at Crescenta Valley Park.

Leading the way was Indians senior Anthony Monroy, who finished fifth in the boys’ Division I race in 15 minutes, 57 seconds. Burroughs placed fifth, and received efforts from David Campos (20th; 16:40), Charlie Camacho (21st; 16:40), Kamal Chahal (29th; 16:55), Alex Martinez (37th; 17:00), Alex Quispe (43rd; 17:11) and Ariel Larios (59th; 17:42).

Burbank placed seventh in the same race, and got finishes from Greg Dotson (14th; 16:25), Anthony Moumjian (26th; 16:50), Kevin Coronel (48th; 17:21), Jeremy Labertew (51st; 17:29), Aaron Chen (56th; 17:37), David Kim (65th; 17:57) and Zach Solomon (70th; 18:10).

In the girls’ Division I race, Burroughs placed seventh. The team was paced by Monique Martinez (14th; 20:20), Kristy Payne (17th; 20:23), Angie Martinez (40th; 21:6), Lauren Andrade (42nd; 21:29), Jessica Aguilar (46th; 21:42), Annabelle Maginnis (57th; 22:13) and Celina Rodriguez (61st; 23:00).

Burbank finished fourth in the girls’ Division II race. McKenzie Paul (fifth; 20:12), Christina Shamirian (18th; 20:54), Griselda Pereya (22nd; 21:15), Debroah Yum (28th; 21:49), Kristen Fergoso (32nd; 22:04), Jenny Yoon (33rd; 22:05) and Victoria Bruner (38th; 22:15) paced the Bulldogs.

In the boys’ Division III race, Bell-Jeff placed sixth and was led by Bryan Encerrado (16th; 18:21), Isael Farias (23rd; 18:41), Jerry Zepata (45th; 19:59), Javier Molina (51st; 20:24) and Normando Cornejo (80th; 24:23).

Guards’ April Tiscareno finished 50th in 23:46 in the girls’ Division III race.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Providence d. Sierra Canyon, 25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19: The nonleague win Monday is an indication of the Pioneers’ improvement this season after a rocky start.

Providence (3-5), which has been paced by Christine Mallari, has gone 3-1 after beginning the season 0-4.

Burbank d. Glendale, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23: Iris Mora had five kills and six digs Tuesday in the Bulldogs’ Pacific League win.

FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: Eight of the nine teams from the local tackle program gained wins Saturday in the fourth week of games.

Getting wins was the Senior Black (1-3), which defeated Agoura Gold, 32-6, the Senior White (4-0), which beat Newbury Park Gold, 34-12, the Junior Black (2-2), which upended the Santa Clarita Redskins, 28-0, the Junior Green (3-1), which got by Moorpark, 30-0, the Midget Gold (4-0), which downed Thousand Oaks Black, 12-6, the Midget Green (1-3), which beat Santa Clarita Chiefs, 20-6, the Bantam Green (2-2), which defeated Castaic Blue, 44-0, and the Pee-Wee (3-1), which got by Simi Valley. 34-14.

Suffering a loss was the Bantam Black (1-3), which fell to Calabasas Gold, 28-0.
