BELL-JEFF VS. SILVER VALLEY ?
?WHEN: 7 p.m. today.
?WHERE: Memorial Field (Burroughs High).
?RECORDS: The Guards are 3-2; the Trojans are 0-4.
?LAST WEEK: Bell-Jeff defeated Crean Lutheran South, 47-0; Silver Valley lost to Xavier Prep, 41-12.
?OUTLOOK: This is the second game in a row the Guards will face a team that has yet to chalk up a win this season. Silver Valley has had its share of problems on offense, as it averages just eight points a game. The team’s defense isn’t much better, as it yields nearly 50 points a game. It’s probably best that the Guards were able to face underachieving teams the last few weeks; taking into consideration the team has been nursing some injuries. With starting quarterback Philip Diaz sidelined with a concussion, backup Brenden Alferez came in and had three touchdown passes against Silver Valley. If Diaz is unable to play today, Alferez will get the call once again. The Bell-Jeff offense has been led by junior wide receiver Micah Shirley, who has 31 catches for 487 yards and seven touchdowns. Shirley averages nearly 16 yards a catch. The Guards come into the game ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Northeast Division.
