Bulldogs fall in playoffs

GIRLS’ TENNIS: Murrieta Valley 13, Burbank 5 -- The Bulldogs didn’t have enough Saturday to win the CIF Southern Section Division II second-round playoff match at home.

Burbank (12-6) — the No. 1 team from the Pacific League — was shut out in singles, as the Nighthawks won all nine sets.

Murrieta Valley is the Southwestern League champion.

The Bulldogs did receive a big effort from their No. 3 doubles team of Saniya Ibrahim and Julie Kim, which swept, 7-6, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1 team of Alice Karaian and Ayesha Ibrahim won two, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.

Burbank won its playoff opener Thursday against Yuciapa, 13-5.

FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: Four teams from the local youth tackle program are moving on in the postseason after playoff wins Saturday.

In the Invitational Playoffs, the Bantam Black (3-7) defeated Calabasas Silver, 24-12.

In the Pacific Youth Football League playoffs, the Bantam Green (7-3) defeated the Santa Clarita Chiefs, 22-8, the Midget Gold (8-1) beat Agoura Blue, 36-22 and the Senior White (8-2) got by Canyon Green, 12-6.

In losing efforts, the Midget Green (2-8) fell to Simi Red, 8-6, the Junior Black (4-6) lost to the Santa Clarita Chiefs, 54-0, and the Junior Green (7-3) was defeated by the Calabasas Black, 24-8.

The Pee-Wees (7-1) had a bye and begin playoffs this week.

Burroughs junior varsity 29, Burbank junior varsity 0: The Indians finished undefeated in the Pacific League and secured a championship with a win Friday against the Bulldogs at Memorial Field.
