Comprising two full-time and three part-time employees, one of the center’s goals in November is to gather enough supplies to last through spring. Similar events organized by the city, Woodbury University, Burbank Jaycees, Burbank Ministerial Assn., Warner Bros. and Yahoo are planned throughout “BTAC Month.”

“People like to know that they are helping their neighbors and friends, and [Howell] has done a great job with that,” Gussow said of the organization’s outreach program. “It’s a charity, but you have to run it like a business.”

Realtor Dan Soderstrom became involved with the center while enrolled in Leadership Burbank. In July, he led a team of co-workers through city streets collecting more than 1,000 food items.

“I just really identify with [Burbank Temporary Aid Center] and the work they do,” Soderstrom said. “People, when they recognize the need, respond.”
