BURBANK — There were a wealth of fine accomplishments turned in this past season by the three area football teams — Burroughs, Burbank and Bellarmine-Jefferson highs.

While all the teams qualified for the CIF Southern Section postseason, the Indians and Bulldogs shared the Pacific League championship.

In addition, the squads combined to go 21-12.

Because of their successes, it’s not surprising that the trio combined to garner 31 all-league selections in their respective leagues.

Leading the way was Burroughs, which had 13 players honored.

“I think that all goes to show all the hard work and the commitment that the players put in all season,” said Burroughs Coach Keith Knoop, who was honored as the Pacific League Coach of the Year. “We might not always have the biggest or the fastest athletes, but we have players who are committed.”

Two players who helped lead the Indians this season were senior running back Dalton Williams and senior linebacker Charlie Hosea. Both athletes played on both sides of the ball, as well.

For their efforts, Williams was named the offensive player of the year and Hosea was the defensive player of the year.

“We needed Dalton and Charlie to play both ways for us,” Knoop said. “And we missed them when they weren’t in there.”

Williams had 196 carries for 1,529 yards (7.8 yards a carry) and 21 touchdowns. This yardage total put him fourth on the Indians’ all-time single-season rushing list.

Hosea was dominating on defense, leading the team with 141 tackles. He averaged 12.8 tackles a game.

Also making the first team on offense was senior lineman Justin Mayorga. Earning spots on the first-team defense were senior lineman Andrew McKnight and senior defensive back Kohl Adams-Hurd. McKnight had 63 tackles and five sacks and Adams-Hurd had 39 tackles and two interceptions.

Indians making the second team were senior offensive lineman Michael Solano, junior offensive lineman Steven Escoboza, quarterback Lucas Yanez, junior defensive lineman Austin Allen and junior linebacker Tyler Tilton. Yanez passed for 1,082 yards and ran for 694.

Senior defensive back Daniel Atlas and senior offensive lineman Anthony Trinidad were honorable-mention picks.

Burroughs (7-4) captured a share of their second league title in four years. The team fell in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Southeast playoffs to Diamond Ranch, 41-18.
