PIANIST TO PERFORM AT FUNDRAISER

L’aureole’s annual benefit on March 6 will be a concert featuring Mel Dangcil, pianist and composer, rather than a fashion show.

Dangcil, a native of San Francisco, uses improvisation and changes notes from classical pieces, making them his own.

After moving to Southern California, he performed in concerts as a band pianist, ballet accompanist and vocal coach. He worked for 17 years with the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera and retired from the Los Angeles City College Music Department, where he was music director of the commercial voice program.

He is on staff at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills as organist and at the Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill, where he directs a monthly cabaret show.

The event begins with an 11 a.m. social hour, preceding a noon luncheon at the Castaway’s Mountain View Room, 1250 Harvard Road, Burbank.

Proceeds will benefit the Glendale Salvation Army youth programs.

Reservations, due by Feb. 27, can be made by calling Joan Taylor at (818) 790-0014. Cost is $50.
