The result qualifies her to play in a prestigious event, hosted by the United States Golf Assn. The tournament will take place at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame from June 21-26.
Golfers shine at event: There were some fine results at a qualifier for the 42nd Trusted Choice Big I National Championship that was held Tuesday at the Oakmont Country Club.
This event was hosted by the Insurance Agents and Brokers of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena and was open to golfers that will not reach the age of 19 by July 30.
There was a tie for low medalist in the boy's division between Chris Ramirez from Northridge and Michael Timpson from Montrose, who both shot four-over-par 76s. Ramirez captured the title in a playoff.
Ramirez and Timpson received invitations to the state qualifier, and both will be playing at Glendale Community College.
Also advancing to the next stage, shooting a 79, was Drake Muir from Pasadena. Muir is a recent graduate of St. Francis.
The girls' division medalist honor was won by Jennifer Johnson from Los Angeles. She is an eighth-grade student at the Westchester Lutheran School.
The state qualifier will be held on July 12-13 in Santa Cruz. The five boys and two girls with the lowest scores will be invited to compete July 27-30th in Chesterfield, N.J. for the National Championship.
The Big "I" Junior Classic has featured athletes who have gone on to enjoy success in the Professional Golf Assn. and LPGA tours. Tiger Woods won the Big "I" Classic National title twice (1990 and 1992).
