Police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder after what police believed was a robbery gone awry. Officers on Sunday arrived and discovered that a 74-year-old woman was attacked while she slept. The woman awoke with a knife pressed against her throat. She was able to knock the knife out of Manuel Dominguez's hand, then bit and held onto his finger. The woman was treated by fire paramedics for lacerations and bruises to her face, arms and neck.
700 block of South Glenoaks Boulevard
Thieves smashed their way into a church and made off with an unspecified amount of collection money that was meant for a baby fundraiser. An employee of Calvery Baptist Church of Burbank on Sunday noticed a broken window and discovered the money was missing. The police investigation is ongoing.
1000 block of North San Fernando Boulevard
Two women attacked a K-Mart security guard who tried to detain them on suspicion of stealing clothes. Police arrested Jazznae Thomas, 26, of North Hollywood, for robbery and using force while trying to getaway. A second suspect, known only as "Ebony," ran away from the scene and drove away in a dark sedan. She was described as being between the ages of 25 to 30, 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, with cornrows and wearing a black sweatshirt and pants.
200 block of East Angeleno Avenue
Thieves pried open the front door of an apartment on Sunday and made off with an Xbox game console, a GPS, a camera, a flat screen TV and jewelry. The police investigation is ongoing.
