Man graduates from Marine basic training
Marine Corps Pvt. Cameron E. Collier, son of Debra Collier of Burbank, recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
During the five-week course, Collier received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications. Collier also received training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques.
Collier is a 2009 graduate of John Burroughs High School and joined the Marine Corps in October 2009.
Youth attended summer arts camp program
Cooper Baldwin, 15, of Burbank attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, a well-known summer arts program for aspiring artists grades 3 through 12. The son of Greg and Melissa Baldwin, Cooper studied vocal arts and operetta at the camp, which is marking its 83rd season.
Cooper finished his second year as a member of Burroughs award-winning advanced mixed choir, Powerhouse, which recently appeared on "Oprah." He was also a member of Burroughs' mixed a cappella choir Vocal Ensemble and the all men's choir, Men at Work, and appeared in the school's Spring 2010 production of "Sweet Charity." As a freshman, he was selected to perform with the Southern California Vocal Assn. Honor Choir.
Cooper has been performing onstage since he was in third grade. His recent roles at Young Stars Theatre in North Hollywood include "The Sound of Music" and "The Music Man." He is a regular in productions staged by Imagine, the drama ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Burbank.
Locals in chorus perform at Disney hall
