Two high-profile hearings are postponed

A preliminary hearing for the homeless man accused of shooting two police officers outside a busy Kmart was postponed in Los Angeles County Superior Court this week.

The hearing was rescheduled for Oct. 13 in Burbank.

Police say Willard managed to grab an officer's gun and begin firing despite being handcuffed behind his back outside the Kmart on July 2.

Willard, 30, pleaded not guilty in July to two counts of attempted murder and other charges. He has remained in custody in lieu of $1-million bail.

In another high-profile case, Michael Rodriguez-Cintron, who police say rammed his car through a gate at Warner Bros. studios on Sept. 17, had his preliminary hearing rescheduled for Tuesday in Superior Court.

Police allegedly found explosive-making materials in his car after he drove out of the studio lot.

Rodriguez-Cintron, a Los Angeles resident who moved from New York, pleaded not guilty last week to possessing a destructive device and having flammable or combustible materials.
