BELL-JEFF VS. MOINTAIN VIEW

WHEN: 7 p.m. today.

WHERE: Memorial Field (Burroughs High).

RECORDS: The Guards are 2-3; the Vikings are 2-2.

LAST WEEK: Bell-Jeff lost to Riverside Christian, 35-20; Mountain View defeated Mark Keppel, 40-0.

OUTLOOK: This is the final nonleague game for the Guards before they open Santa Fe League play. The team will begin league competition Oct. 16 against St. Anthony at Burroughs' Memorial Field. Bell-Jeff has had its ups and downs on offense this season. The Guards score an average of 21.8 points a game and give up 24.4 points a game. They have been able to move the ball at times, as Coach Rolando Aguirre has gone with a few different offensive schemes. The Guards have also have had to deal with some injuries to key starters, which has caused Aguirre to move some individuals around. Bell-Jeff will be taking on a Mountain View team that has also been hot and cold this season. Along with the win against Mark Keppel, the Vikings' other lone victory came in the first game of the season against Bassett, 19-13. Mountain View has played solid defense at times. In four games, the Vikings have given up an average of 19.7 yards a game. Mountain View doesn't pass the ball much, choosing instead to pound out offensive yardage on the ground. That ground attack is led by Josymar Ulloa, who has carried the ball 89 times for 770 yards. Along with averaging 8.7 yards a carry, Ulloa has also scored six touchdowns on the ground and two receiving. The Guards' defense has had trouble stopping the run this season. In last week's nonleague loss to Riverside Christian, D.J. Gordon gained 282 yards and scored four touchdowns against the Bell-Jeff defense.
