"We learned how to work hard for a common goal," said Judy Robb McCord. "We all had to study for our badges."
Most of the women in the ship went to college, and some earned doctorates, which was unusual for the 1960s, they said.
Those attending the event were Priscilla Luders Garcia, Judy Jastrow Muscarella, Carol Bentley Koder, Carline Cutshaw Rayber, Merodie Robb Nelson, Sue Stickney Teele, Diane Mohr, Donna Walther Greb, Janet Smith Garrick, Judy McKenzie Stuart, Judy Robb McCord, Betsy Davis Pattison and Sharon Fairburn Baxter.
Five of the women started with the Brownie Troop 183 in second grade at Miller Elementary School. They are Rayber, Pattison, Stuart, McCord and Baxter.
Providence St. Joseph Guild has fall card party
Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild recently held its annual Fall Card Party and Luncheon at Lakeside Golf Club. Grace Mylorie Patz was chairwoman the event, and the co-chair was Karen Barragan.
There were 173 members and guests in attendance. Louise Arklin of Granada Hills brought enough women to play five tables of canasta. Sarah De La Torre and Carmen McClellan of Glendale enjoyed playing bridge. Other women in attendance were Lee Kaplan, Barbara Reese and Doris Talbert.
There were several drawings. Barbara Osborn won the $100 money basket.
The next card party and luncheon is scheduled to be held March 2.
Zonta honors women in the military
The Zonta Club of Burbank Area will honor "Women In The Military: Past, Present & Future" at its annual Woman Of The Year luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 6 at the Castaway's Mountain View Room. The "Woman of the Year" is an annual event sponsored by Zonta to honor exemplary women in Burbank who make outstanding contributions to the community.
