Cameraman wins five awards

February 18, 2011

A senior producer for Burbank’s public information office was honored at the Radio and Television Assn. of Southern California with a record five Golden Mikes.

Peter Musurlian, an independent journalist when not working as the Burbank channel’s station supervisor, now holds eight Golden Mikes.

The Golden Mike is awarded for excellence in broadcast news, and it was the first time in the association’s 61-year history that a single individual won five of the prizes.

Musurlian swept the Best News Public Affairs Program in Division B — which is for TV stations with fewer than 50 employees — Best Serious Feature Reporting, Best Business & Consumer Reporting, Best Entertainment Reporting and Best Video Editing of a Feature Story categories. He has earned two Los Angeles Area Emmy nominations over the past decade.

His time in local politics has not been without controversy, especially in his off time reporting on campaigns.

In October, Musurlian was ordered to stay at least 10 yards from an aide to Assemblyman Mike Gatto after a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge sided with her claims of harassment.

The order remains in effect until October.
