A burglar escaped a police perimeter Wednesday afternoon that shut down a north Burbank neighborhood for roughly four hours.

A woman in the 2600 block of North Keystone Street called police after she reportedly saw a man wearing black boots leaving her home.

Officers set up a preliminary perimeter in the area after the call and slowly closed in on where the call originated.

Vehicle traffic was shut down in the 2400 to 2600 blocks of North Keystone Street, North Lamer Street and North Parish Place between Tulare Avenue and North Kenneth Road as Burbank police searched neighborhood yards with K-9 units. Air support also responded to the area soon after the call.

A North Keystone Street resident, who declined to give her name, said she didn’t ask any questions as police searched her yard.

Many residents missed the confusion if they arrived home after 6 p.m. when the area was cleared.

When canvassing the area for potential witnesses, officers had little to offer in the way of a suspect description besides a man wearing black boots.

Video surveillance by neighbors on Feb. 7 showed a man exiting a home in the 2500 block of North Parish Place and entering a silver Ford Taurus with a sunroof.

“Officers kept a lookout for any similar vehicles, but we’re unable to confirm if the two incidents are connected, said Sgt. Robert Quesada.

Police records show there have been six burglaries and two vehicle break-ins within a half-mile radius of where Wednesday’s incident occurred since the beginning of the year.

Southeast of North Keystone Street, 18 homes were burglarized in a one-mile radius of the area bordered by North Glenoaks Boulevard, East Walnut Boulevard, North Kenneth Road and Andover Drive since November, police records show.
