Bellarmine-Jefferson 7, St. Genevieve 6: The Guards pushed across five runs — all with two outs — in the seventh inning to pull out a Santa Fe League victory Tuesday on the road.
Bell-Jeff (4-2, 2-0 in league) received two runs batted in each from Johnny Karalis and Mitch Kellogg, Ryan Okishii went two for four with an RBI and Brian DelValle went three for four with an RBI.
The Guards scored the winning run with two out in the seventh with a bit of trickery. Karalis was a third base and DelValle was at first with Sam Kachikian at the plate. After a strike on Kachikian, Bell-Jeff Coach Hector Perez had DelValle break for second. But instead of going to the base, he stopped in the base path and fell to the infield, faking a hurt ankle. When the St. Genevieve catcher tried to throw to second, DelValle got up and made it safely at second, as Karalis motored home with the winning run.
"It was one of the wildest games I've ever been a part of," Perez said.
