New coucilwoman thanks the voters

April 21, 2011

To all the voters who voted in the general election — thank you for participating in our most important civic duty (“It's official: Gabel-Luddy wins,” April 16).

I am pleased and honored to have been elected as a new member to the Burbank City Council. Whether you supported me or not, I pledge to do my very best to represent everyone, and I hope to earn your respect and trust.

During the campaign walking door to door, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with residents across the city, and that gave me a deeper appreciation of many of the city’s continuing challenges, as well as many aspects of our city that make it a great place to live and work. New issues came up along the way, including concerns about the state construction project on Interstate 5 and how it will affect businesses in a tough economic climate.

As an incoming council member, I look forward to continuing the dialogue with voters and my colleagues as I make a transition to a new role. And while I may have skills and experience in land use, I plan to sit, listen and learn — there are challenges ahead, and there is much to be proud of in Burbank.

Finally, while I am making every effort to remove my lawn signs, there may be stragglers that get overlooked. Please do not hesitate to contact me by calling (818) 823-1594 so these signs can be removed and recycled.

Thank you, Burbank.

Emily Gabel-Luddy

Burbank

Editor’s note: Gabel-Luddy is a Burbank city councilwoman-elect.
