The Bulldogs opened the event by beating El Rancho,16-1. Daniel Garcia had four goals and Shane Pentowski and Dion Costa had three each. Goalkeeper Derek Baer had five blocks.
Burbank (4-0) also had little trouble earning a 27-1 win against Alhambra. Card led the way with six goals and Akopian contributed five.
GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL
Bellarmine-Jefferson d. Milken Community, 25-22, 25-16, 25-13: Jocelyn Cervantes tallied 11 kills, three aces and eight digs to lift the Guards to a nonleague win Thursday on the road.
Taryn Nelson added eight kills and five aces, Jasmine Smith had eight blocks and Amanda Malloof added 22 assists for Bell-Jeff (1-1).
Mary Star d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13: The Guards opened the season Sept. 6 with a nonleague loss at home.
Taryn Nelson had 11 kills and Jocelyn Cervantes added nine for Bell-Jeff.
Burbank d. Golden Valley: 24-26, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12: The Bulldogs were able to fight their way back after being down to win the nonleague match Thursday on the road.
Tyler Brooks had 28 assists, Stephanie Eskander and Reily Brennan had 13 kills each, Jamie Gonzalez had nine kills and four blocks and Stefanie Lin had 23 digs for Burbank (1-1).
Canyon d. Burbank, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 15-10: It was a tough season-opener for the Bulldogs Sept. 6, as they fell in a nonleague match on the road.
Tyler Brooks had 25 assists, Stephanie Lin had 15 digs, Reily Brennan had 10 kills, Juliana Marks had nine kills and Stephanie Eskander had seven kills for Burbank.
GIRLS' GOLF
Golden Valley 217, Alemany 229, Burbank 278: The Bulldogs placed third in the nonleague tri-meet at El Cariso Golf Course.
Pauline Saisirikul paced Burbank with a 49. She was followed by Erica Snow (52), Kristen Booth (57), Julia Gutierrez (58), Alaysha Riley (62) and Susie Miller (67).
Golden Valley 234, Burbank 241: The Bulldogs lost a close nonleague match against the Grizzlies in a contest at Vista Valencia Golf Course.
