Man working on Burbank police-fire building renovation arrested after foot chase

A 26-year-old Yorba Linda man hired to work on the renovation of the Burbank police-fire building was arrested Wednesday after being Tasered and chased on foot by officers who discovered he had an outstanding warrant during a workplace security check.

Evan Miles Housley, who works for the construction contractor on site, was confronted about the warrant during a routine background check before entering a secure area of the station, Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

Burbank officers discovered Housley had an outstanding $30,000-warrant out for his arrest for evading police in Orange County, Ryburn said.

Housley was approached by officers who attempted to handcuff him when he allegedly resisted and pulled away, Ryburn said. As he attempted to run out of the building, an officer fired his Taser gun, hitting Housley in the back.

After a brief fall, Housley got up and started running across the street before officers could get close enough to handcuff him, Ryburn said.

Officers chased Housley through the back of the parking lot of the Community Services Building, across the street from the station and onto Olive Avenue, where Housley allegedly attempted to gain access to a moving vehicle, Ryburn said.

“At that point there were several officers in the area who swarmed him and took him into custody,” Ryburn said.

Housley was arrested on suspicion of assault on a police officer, attempted carjacking and resisting or obstructing an officer. His bail is set at $130,000 and is due in court tomorrow.
