'Old Wicked Songs' is worthy of review

February 07, 2012

This past weekend, my wife and I saw a wonderful play at Burbank's own Colony Theatre, “Old Wicked Songs.” The Colony is unmatched in local theater, and yet our own newspaper, the Burbank Leader, doesn't review every production.

I hope you plan to review “Old Wicked Songs” because it's one of the finest plays we have ever seen. The two actors, Tavis Danz and John Towey, not only present a moving and emotional story, they are both talented singers and pianists. When this play has been produced in other theaters they have used programmed player pianos, but not in this production.

We have been subscribers to the Colony Theatre since 1989, when they were located on Riverside Drive in Los Angeles. The cost of a season subscription for all six shows is about the price of an orchestra ticket for one show at the Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center.

I hope that “Old Wicked Songs” is a sellout, because the show is so good there should be no empty seats.
