Council should postpone wood-roof law

February 10, 2012

In the last 10 years we’ve been hammered into loss of income by stock market crashes on investments, loss of jobs and unemployment, loss of interest income on retirement savings and diminished home values.

Add to that increased costs of living, higher food prices, skyrocketing medical costs, insurance, and health issues. On top of all that, Burbank wants some wood-roof homeowners to replace perfectly good roofs when other repairs and more energy-efficient upgrades may be a priority (“Deadline nears for residents to replace wood roofs,” Aug. 9).

It would be good, caring leadership for the City Council to extend the re-roofing ordinance at least five to 10 years until the economy recovers and homeowners could stay out of even more roofing debt, which could be the tipping point of financial downfall for some.
