In the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division VII playoffs, Providence fell to No. 2 Faith Baptist, 16-0.
Brewer was a potent hitter for the Pioneers. Along with a .419 average (26 for 62), she also drove in 40 runs, scored 30 runs, had five home runs and two triples. In addition, Brewer had a .726 slugging percentage and a .479 on-base percentage.
Llaguno paced the team with a .455 average (25 for 55) and also tallied 22 RBI, scored 23 runs, had a .483 OBP and struck out just three times.
Guttry, who battled back from an injury, hit .381 (16 for 42) and had 15 RBI. In the circle, she was 6-6 with a 1.72 earned-run average and 89 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings.
Tubert unable to make final cut: University of Arkansas junior-to-be Emily Tubert fired a second round even-par 71 Saturday at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark.
However, the Burroughs High graduate did not make the cut for Sunday's final round. Tubert was playing on a sponsor's exemption for the second consecutive year and headed into the clubhouse with a 144.
Tubert opened play in the morning flight from the 10th hole and made seven consecutive pars to start her day.
In several cases throughout the round, Tubert hit the ball well off the tee but her putter just wasn't as sharp as the Razorback would have liked.
"Today, shooting even was hard," Tubert said on Arkansas website. "I hit the ball so well [Saturday] but I could not make a putt. The first three holes, I missed three putts inside eight feet. You can't do that and play against the world's best players. It's interesting; this is really just another tournament. This experience tells me that I belong and that I can do this."
On her fifth hole of the day (No. 14), Tubert launched a shot over the fountain and it hit within a foot of the pin. The ball spun back leaving her with a six-footer. She two-putted for a par.
