To celebrate their birthday, 7-Eleven stores are giving away free slurpees starting at 11 a.m. La Cañada's new store on 1001 Foothill Blvd. also opens today. LAist

The heat has brought out the Animal Kingdom, with bears in Pasadena and Duarte and an apparent mountain lion in Sherman Oaks and Toluca Lake. The National Park Service hasn't confirmed the latter sightings yet. KCET

A former drink server at the Angeles National Golf Course alleges she was fired after reporting that a customer groped her. Angeles National called her allegations "ridiculous, salacious and unfounded" in a statement. Daily News

After North Glendale residents made it clear that they don't want to share a one-mile stretch of road with cyclists, the Glendale City Council tabled a plan to add bike lanes to Honolulu Avenue. Glendale News-Press

Residents in Sherman Oaks seem opposed to high-risers. The Neighborhood Council was split on approving a six-story building off the Ventura (101) Freeway. The original proposal called for an eight-story building. Contra Costa Times

And now, for one of the most closely watched City Council meetings this year: San Fernando City Councilman Mario Hernandez resigned yesterday after an affair gone wrong with fellow Councilwoman Maribel De La Torre. Both obtained restraining orders against each other last week after the relationship went sour. Daily News
