Group of 'heavy set' women steal thousands of dollars worth of perfume from Burbank store

July 12, 2012

For the fourth time since January, up to three “heavy set” women have walked out of a Burbank store with bags of stolen perfume -- the latest theft totaling about $4,000, police said.

“They walk in and walk out,” Sgt. Darin Ryburn said of the women involved in the thefts at Ulta on the 1300 block of Victory Place.

Police said the women walk through the store, place the fragrances in shopping bags and then leave.

“No one inside made any attempt to stop them,” Ryburn said.

On two occasions, just two women were involved in the thefts, in other incidents, there were three.

About $1,000 worth of perfume was stolen on Jan. 11; roughly $450 in perfume was taken March 17 and about $4,000 in perfume was stolen on Monday, Ryburn said.

The amount of merchandise stolen in February was not available.

The women were all described as “heavy set,” African American, between 25 to 40 years old, and about 5 feet, 4 inches tall.

Ryburn encouraged shoppers to be good witnesses and get a good description of the people involved and a license plate number to assist police in their investigation.

The women were seen leaving in various vehicles, including a white, four-door Buick; a gray, four-door Dodge; and a 1990s, two-door Buick that is orange and maroon in color with primer spots.

Anyone with information was encouraged to call police at (818) 238-3276.
