Good morning, readers. Today is Monday, September 24.  The search for a new Burbank police chief could be affected by City Manger Mike Flad’s pending departure.

City officials say the search may be postponed amid news that Mike Flad is leaving his post as city manager to accept a job in the city of South Gate. Burbank Leader

Officials say that the theft of cellular phones and other electronic devices are on the rise on Metro trains. Authorities recommend keeping devices out of sight while riding trains or buses. KPCC

Two people were critically injured in a hit-and-run accident Saturday in Sun Valley. A man and woman were struck by a vehicle as they sat on a bench at a bus stop, according to authorities. Patch

One lucky student at Burbank’s Jordan Middle School will have the unique opportunity to have their illustrations animated and produced by Cartoon Network.  The contest is a part of the network’s mentor program for Burbank schools. Burbank Leader

A Van Nuys man was killed Friday by his own truck. Rogelio Avina, 53, was struck and killed after his truck rolled backward as he searched a trash bin for recyclables . Daily News
