It’s my hope that news of the Colony Theatre experiencing financial difficulties has sufficiently stunned the people of Burbank into taking action and offering help. The threat of losing this top-notch, professional and truly talented organization would be an incalculable loss to our city.
Anyone who has attended a Colony production knows I’m not just talking about preserving art for art’s sake, and that this isn’t simply an adorable little troupe we all know. The Colony Theatre is and has been a star organization of the Southern California theater scene since it first arrived in Burbank in 2000, after building its reputation for 25 years down the road in Silverlake. For those who love the theater, but rarely find a chance to do something about it, it’s unlikely you’ll ever find a theater with the same combination of being so deserving of help, and so urgently needing help.
Now is the time for those who love theater, even if you haven’t previously visited the Colony, to step forward and help. Please, visit their website at colonytheatre.org, or call (818) 558-7000 to contact Artistic Director Barbara Beckley, or Executive Director Trent Steelman. They not only need your help and support, they deserve it. And Burbank deserves nothing less than the Colony Theatre.
