Security at Bob Hope Airport was ramped up on Monday until the nature of two explosions in Boston could be determined, a spokesman for the airfield said.

Two explosions rocked the finish line area of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and causing dozens of injuries as of Monday afternoon, authorities reported.

Bob Hope Airport spokesman Victor Gill said security had been increased “and that’s really all I can say about it until more is known.”

“We are aware of [the Boston Marathon explosions] and our Police Department has increased security until the nature of those events is known,” he said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was also on heightened alert as the investigation into the explosions remained ongoing.

In a statement, Sheriff Lee Baca said the department planned to increase patrols to “create a more visible presence where people congregate, such as government buildings, shopping centers, athletic events, and public transit.”

There was no immediate explanation of the cause of the explosions as images of blood and injured pedestrians spread on social media online.
