Neighborhood fences and police cars proved no match for a bear in Sun Valley, where it hopped into backyards and roamed into horse corrals Wednesday morning before being tranquilized.

Police started getting calls from residents about 6:10 a.m. about the bear, which TV news showed having free rein through the Sun Valley community.

It didn’t appear to be fully grown and was seen climbing over fences into backyards, spooking horses in corrals and avoiding police cars searching for it on the street, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The bear was reported in an area near the intersection of Sunland Bouleavard and Stonehurst Avenue south of the Foothill (210) Freeway.

Andrew Hughan of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said it appeared the bear had been tagged by department officials before.

It was eventually tracked down and tranquilized by Fish and Wildlife wardens shortly before 7:45 a.m. After an examination, the bear was to be relocated to the forest.
