Emily Tubert has had success playing in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. In fact, the Burroughs High graduate won the event in 2010.
Tubert, 21, is enjoying another solid outing in this year's U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The University of Arkansas senior won her first round of match play Wednesday and moves on to the round of 32 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
Tubert played well in stroke play Monday and Tuesday, entering match play as the sixth seed overall. She faced Ashlan Ramsey of Milledgeville, Ga. in a back-and-forth battle that went down to the wire before Tubert emerged with a 2-up victory on the 17th hole.
"I really do enjoy match play because it's so much different from stroke play," said Tubert, a former All-Area Player of the Year and Leader Female Athlete of the Year. "It is just you against the other person, and you really know where you stand from hole to hole. It's just good competition."
