Update: Police issue 88 citations at 'flash mob' car meet in Burbank

August 16, 2013

Burbank police issued 88 citations during a car enthusiast "flash mob" Tuesday that attracted roughly 1,300 vehicles and thousands more spectators to the Empire Center parking lot.

Two vehicles were impounded after their drivers were cited for engaging in speed contests, police reported Thursday.

Three citations were also issued for possessing marijuana, while another 74 were handed out for vehicle code violations, such as missing front license plates or headlights that were too dim.

The flash mob of customized vehicles was organized through social media and attracted about 4,500 people, according to Burbank police.

The organizer, a Burbank native who declined to be identified, said Tuesday's "Krispy Kreme meet” -- which is not affiliated with the doughnut chain -- would be the last of its kind. A similar event at the Empire Center lot took place in November. Both clogged traffic on surrounding streets as police  from several agencies tried to contain the crowds.
