The souvenir programs will showcase other artwork by young patients at the hospital, said publicity chairwoman Lorelei Kelley. The idea of using art from the children came from Dorothy Austin, treasurer and invitation chairwoman.
Designs for this year's show will be by Lourdes Chavez, a high fashion/couture atelier based in Los Angeles who creates two collections a year — spring and winter. Chavez hand-sketches each item with her clients’ comfort and appearance in mind and has a clear focus on future trends while keeping her styling and taste current, but ultimately classic and timeless.
“Her tailoring patterns and fit are intricate and elaborate works of art,” Kelley said.
The guild is extremely excited to have Chavez present her designs, said fashion show chairwoman Glenda Jones.
“I am indebted to past president Tish Sellers for procuring this wonderful designer,” Jones said.
Chavez began designing following graduation from the Institute of Design and Merchandising, and opened her own fashion house in December 1997. She has received numerous awards from the state of California, City of Hope, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and the Fashion Group International.
For the first time, tickets can be purchased online at the guild's newly designed website —laprovidencia.org, which was created by Alicia Katz. There will be opportunity tickets on sale, along with Lotto tickets for the grand prize of $2,000 and second prize of $1,000.
