Looking at the result from the last time the Providence High girls' volleyball team played Holy Martyrs, a win in Monday's rematch didn't appear promising for the Pioneers.
In its first meeting with the Armens on Oct. 25, Providence was swept. Not only did the Pioneers lose in straight games, but they never got to 20 in any one game and in two of the losses they scored only 12 and eight points, respectively.
But the rematch provided some motivation for the Pioneers, who were participating in the inaugural Liberty League Tournament. Providence was able to turn the tables on Holy Martyrs, earning a 25-22, 25-12, 25-20 victory at home in the semifinal contest.
