Roundup: Burbank softball splits tournament games

Burbank in High Desert Classic: The Bulldogs split two games Friday in tournament action at the Lancaster Sports Complex.

In the first game, Burbank (3-3) lost to West Ranch, 5-2, but rebounded to defeat Silverado, 6-3.

In the loss, Caitlyn Brooks had two triples. The junior pitcher also picked up the win in the second game, as well as belting a two-run home run. Lily Winn had a solo home run.

Burroughs 5, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 0: Cheyenne Steward (1-1) went the distance, pitching seven innings and getting her first win on the season Wednesday in the opening game of a nonleague doubleheader at Olive Park.


Steward gave up four hits and walked two for Burroughs (3-1)

Offensively, Sidney Ortega was three for four with two runs batted in for the Indians.

With a 1-0 lead, Aimee Rodriguez hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning that increased the lead to 3-0. Burroughs tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning on an Ortega RBI single.

Burroughs 19, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 0 (five innings): The Indians dominated in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader Wednesday at Olive Park that was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Sophomore pitcher Dani Ryan (2-0) pushed the Indians scoreless-inning streak to 17 by hurling her second consecutive shutout in giving the Indians the doubleheader sweep. Ryan went five innings and allowed just three hits while striking out one.

The Indians collected 19 hits. Sidney Ortega, Aimee Rodriguez, Kailanie Oasay and Ryan collected three hits each. Tori Talavera hit a solo home run and Michelle Santiago, Ortega and Delaney Nicol hit three consecutive triples in the third inning.


Pacifica Christian 238, Providence 251: The Pioneers dropped to 1-1 in the Liberty League with the loss Thursday at Balboa Golf Course.

Providence 255, Trinity Classical Academy: 271: The Pioneers opened their season Tuesday with a Liberty League victory at De Bell Golf Club.


Burbank d. 25-20, 25-18, 25-17: The Bulldogs opened their Pacific League season Tuesday with a sweep of the Tornadoes.

Willie Perryman had 10 kills, Alec Agana had 13 digs, Peter Jang had 14 assists and Isaiah Torres added 10 assists for Burbank (3-0, 1-0 in league).


Burroughs 125, Pasadena 4: The Indians had first-place finished in all 16 events Thursday in the Pacific League opener at Memorial Field.
