Two female pedestrians were hospitalized Monday night after being struck by a sedan while reportedly crossing the street illegally, police said.
At 8:45 p.m., the two women reportedly ran across Virginia Avenue at Olive Avenue, heading southbound from George Izay Park, when they were struck by a motorist, an 80-year-old woman, driving eastbound on Olive Avenue on a green light, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
One suffered a broken shoulder and elbow, while the other sustained head injuries, Ryburn said.
Initial reports indicated that the head trauma was not life-threatening, Ryburn said.
The women, who were both transported to a nearby trauma center, could not be immediately identified.
There’s no indication that drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the collision, Ryburn said.
The incident comes on the heels of another pedestrian collision that claimed the life of an 87-year-old Burbank woman last week.
The woman, identified as Rosa Rivera, was struck just before 9 a.m. Thursday while crossing the driveway of a shopping center at Walnut Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard. She died the following night.
