Gerard Deegan was on one of his routine training sessions in 2001, bicycling around the Rose Bowl. He was working out in preparation for a world championship duathlon competition, a form of racing that combines running and cycling. Deegan’s training run came to a literal screeching halt when he was struck violently by a car. The incident not only took away his ability to train, it almost took his life. “I was in terrible shape after the accident,” said Deegan, a native of Ireland who lives in Burbank and who has served as an assistant cross-country coach at Burroughs since 2005.

He may not be a star yet, but he is a hero. Last Sunday Andrew found himself in a crucial life-anddeath situation and his swift reaction and levelheaded thinking averted what could have been a calamitous accident. His mother, Louise Briscoe — who stands about 4 feet tall — was driving her son home from his Bar Mitzvah preparations when the metal extension that enables her to reach the brake pedal of her 2007 Toyota Sienna van suddenly slipped off the pedal.

"Premonition" is a tale about supernatural precognition that becomes an interesting story with a spiritual message of faith, love, forgiveness and redemption. Despite some of the public comments about this film, and after puzzling through the loose ends and red herrings, I found it to be, all in all, rather satisfying. This is an oddly paced film about a young housewife, Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock), whose marriage has gone stale and who seems to have a particularly vivid dream that her husband has been killed in a violent road accident.
