MCCAMBRIDGE PARK - A tweak in the lineup did the Burbank High softball team plenty of good Tuesday afternoon. On the eve of her team's CIF Southern Section Division III wild-card home contest against Arroyo Grande, Burbank Coach Nicole Drabecki opted to move Laina Do up to the third spot in the lineup. Do had spent most of the season batting cleanup or fifth. The move paid dividends as Do contributed a pair of run-scoring singles to lead Burbank to a convincing 6-1 victory.

The Burbank High and Burroughs girls’ water polo teams might want to carpool for the first round of the postseason. Both teams are headed north, way north, up the 101 Freeway for opening matches Thursday. The Indians can drop off the Bulldogs in Santa Maria for their match with host St. Joseph, and pick them up on their way back from their trip near San Luis Obispo to take on host Arroyo Grande. What ever way they get to their matchups, Burroughs and Burbank will no doubt have to leave early Thursday morning to ensure they make it in time for their 3:15 p.m. CIF Southern Section Division IV contests.

BURBANK — There has never been a more successful girls’ water polo season at Burbank High than the one that was put together by a talented group this past season. Not only did the Bulldogs notch a 22-8 record, finish second in the tough Pacific League and win more than one postseason match for the first time in school history, but Burbank also played its way to the CIF Southern Section Division IV quarterfinals — another first. With their overwhelming success, it’s not surprising that some of the team’s members have been reaping their share of postseason honors.
