BURBANK - It is a cross-town rivalry any time Burroughs High goes up against Burbank in any sport. But in boys' volleyball the rivalry is a purely geographical based one as the Indians are a divisional powerhouse and the Bulldog program is in just its second year after being revived as a varsity program. As the two squads squared off Wednesday in Pacific league play on the Indians' home floor, the metaphorical gulf between the two programs was on display as the hosts quickly and easily handled the visiting Bulldogs, sweeping them, 25-15, 25-13, 25-11.

BURBANK — The Burbank High boys' and girls' track and field teams look like squads ready to compete for their share of Pacific League championships. With just the league preliminaries and league finals left on tap in the Pacific League, the Bulldogs took part in a final tune-up Wednesday in their annual cross-town rivalry with Burroughs at Memorial Field. Burbank swept the contest, as athletes set several personal records, broke a school record and put up some solid marks. While the girls' team defeated the Indians, 94-42, the Bulldogs boys came away with a 91-45 win. "I think we're peaking at the right time and that's just what you want going into the league meet," Burbank Coach Darin Wolf said.

ARCADIA - The Burbank High baseball team has had a definite flair for the dramatic this week. In a Pacific League game Tuesday against Pasadena, the Bulldogs had to claw their way back from a seven-run deficit to salvage a victory. On Friday in a league contest against Arcadia, Burbank again found itself trailing - this time by two runs - headed into the final two innings. Undaunted, Burbank again mounted a spirited comeback, scoring two runs in the sixth inning to tie the score and two more in the seventh to pull out a 4-2 win against the host Apaches.

LA CRESCENTA - The Burbank High softball team has been in contention for the Pacific League title the past three seasons. Even though the Bulldogs have been one of the more successful teams in the league during that span, they were never able to win at Crescenta Valley. Burbank was hoping to finally break that record of futility Thursday when the teams squared off in a league contest. Fueled by a solid pitching performance, timely hitting and their ability to take advantage of Falcons errors, the Bulldogs broke that streak in a big way, rolling to a 9-1 win against host Crescenta Valley.

GLENDALE - Since Pacific League play began in March, the Burbank High and Glendale boys' volleyball teams find themselves with something in common - difficulty closing out games. That pattern changed slightly when the two squads met Wednesday afternoon at Glendale. Burbank received 11 kills from John You and 21 assists from Jason Gomez to register a 25-22, 16-25, 25-9, 26-24 victory. A point away from forcing a deciding fifth game, Glendale (6-6, 1-4 in league) saw Burbank (7-7, 4-1)

PASADENA - There was no lack of opportunities for either the visiting Burroughs High baseball team or Pasadena in Pacific League play Tuesday afternoon. What both teams were short on in a three 3 hour, 13-minute game was key contributions. Despite lacking in a few areas, though, the Indians overcame a furious Bulldogs' five-run rally in holding on for a 7-5 victory. “I told the guys after the game that we're going to have one of these types games where not much goes right,” Burroughs Coach Kiel Holmes said.

GLENDALE - All it took was a mere half inning for the Burbank High baseball team to establish itself against host Glendale in Pacific League play Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored four runs and then rode a two-hitter from starting pitcher Angel Villagran en route to an 8-0 victory. “We emphasize coming out early and sending a message to teams if we can do that,” Burbank Coach Bob Hart said. “We had an opportunity to do that early today and took advantage. That made this game a lot easier.” The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-0 in league)

BURBANK - Thanks in part to stellar pitching and a relentless offense, the Burbank High softball team finds itself atop the CIF Southern Section Division III poll. The Bulldogs spent most of the first month of the season trying to attain the top spot. With that accomplished, the Bulldogs will look to remain there while also trying to capture the program's first Pacific League championship. “We have to stay fresh and focused to stay on top,” said Burbank Coach Nicole Drabecki, whose team registered a 17-1 league home win against Glendale on Thursday at McCambridge Park.
