Passenger traffic and parking revenues at Burbank Bob Hope Airport in June each tumbled by more than 7% compared to the same period last year, according to figures released this week, even as other regional airfields experienced growth. In June 2012, 342,944 passengers traveled through Bob Hope, a nearly 7.8% slide from 371,931 passengers in June 2011, according to a report to the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority on Monday. “June was disappointing for us, unfortunately,” said Dan Feger, the airport's executive director.

Not everyone is getting dropped off at the Burbank Bob Hope Airport (“ Airport parking revenue slumps ,” July 4). We have had occasions where freeloaders park on our street, get out their cellphone and call a taxi. Two summers ago, we tried to get the city to put some restrictions on parking, but apparently we didn't have the required density. In view of the revenue loss, it might behoove the city to reconsider this. Carol Tensen Burbank

Carrol Parris, wife of Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris, was cited Thursday for carrying a loaded firearm at the Burbank Bob Hope Airport. At 6:25 a.m., airport police officers were called to a TSA checkpoint because an X-ray check of her carry-on bag showed an image of a handgun inside. Carrol Parris acknowledged that the bag and loaded firearm belonged  to her, according to airport police. The handgun was registered to Parris, but the registration had expired in April, according to a police report.

Leader coverage of parking lot and rate changes coming next year at Burbank Bob Hope Airport omitted a giant fact: The rates for our largest and lowest cost economy lot, Lot A, remain unchanged at $10 per day. There were also no changes in price for other popular lots, including Short Term, Valet, and Lot E. Readers like letter-writer Bobby Owsinski concluded rates were going up across the board (“Airport should rethink customer benefits,” Mailbag,...

Spirits were soaring when children in the city's day camp program visited Burbank Bob Hope Airport on Thursday. Seventy youngsters heard about airport's history and career opportunities, participated in demonstrations and saw the equipment used by the airport police and fire departments. Seeing what goes on behind the scenes is a great opportunity for the kids because many of them don't get the opportunity to fly, said Jon McGinley, recreation coordinator for the Summer Daze Express program at Robert Gross Park.

After a couple of false starts and an arduous vetting process, Burbank Bob Hope Airport officials finally let the dirt fly Friday, celebrating a groundbreaking for the airport's new transportation center that has long been in the making. In the absence of a new terminal, expectations are high that the new 520,000-square-foot, $112.6-million transportation center will do more than just draw more passengers to the airport through bus and rail connections. What the aging airfield needs is a major make-over and a marketing recast.

Ten years ago, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport formally adopted the name Bob Hope Airport. It was a great tribute to the much-loved comedian and stalwart USO volunteer. But the name has a big drawback: It does not give a clue about its geographic location in Southern California, the Los Angeles Times reported .  Airport officials fear they are losing business from out-of-town travelers who book flights to Los Angeles International Airport, without realizing that Bob Hope Airport is closer to tourist attractions like Hollywood Boulevard and Universal Studios Hollywood.
