The following items will be discussed at Tuesday's City Council meeting: VICTORY BIKE ROUTE The council will consider a resolution to accept a Caltrans grant that would fund a bikeway along Victory Boulevard. The bikeway would not be physically separated from the roadway, but instead will be designated by a mix of posted signage and in-road, striped lanes on Victory between Clybourn Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. The city would also consider installing a bike lane along the Burbank Boulevard Bridge, pending approval from Caltrans.

BURBANK — A gasoline spill on the Ventura (134) Freeway on Monday shut down westbound traffic for six hours after a tanker truck overturned near the Buena Vista Street exit. The spill occurred just before 8 a.m. as a result of an accident involving three cars and the tanker, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said. "The collision resulted in the tanker truck losing about 100 gallons of fuel, which facilitated the closure of the westbound lanes of the 134," he said.

Burbank officials this week signed off on a massive $700-million state construction project for the Golden State (5) Freeway that will bring major traffic disruptions through 2015 as crews realign the ramps to accommodate new carpool lanes. In one of the largest of the project’s impacts, the Burbank Boulevard bridge over the I-5 will be closed for nearly 14 months as crews reconstruct the overpass with new on- and off-ramps starting in 2013, cutting one of the main arteries into downtown and forcing widespread detours.

Federal stimulus funding will soon pave the way for new bus and carpool lanes between the Hollywood (170) Freeway and the Buena Vista Street interchange in Burbank. The five-year project through the California Department of Transportation is part of a larger plan for the area to not only extend the carpool and bus lanes, but to improve the Empire Avenue interchange, officials said. "The new interchange at Empire Avenue is something the city has been working towards for at least a decade," said David Kriske, principal planner for the Community Development Department.

Karen S. Kim BURBANK -- Burbank's City Council authorized Tuesday to enter a partnership with Glendale, Los Angeles and Caltrans in commissioning a $100,000 study aimed at relieving the gridlock at the interchange of the Golden State (5) and Ventura (134) freeways. After a study last year found that ramps could not be constructed to connect the eastbound Ventura to the northbound Golden State or the southbound Golden State to the westbound Ventura, staff from the three cities and Caltrans proposed that the new study look at other ways of alleviating congestion.

About 30 people attended a California Department of Transportation meeting Wednesday night looking for answers about a scheduled freeway expansion on the Golden State (5) Freeway. They got their answers, but some weren't necessarily what they wanted to hear. Caltrans representatives said the project to add carpool lanes to Interstate 5 through Burbank and portions of Glendale had been scheduled to begin last year, but was delayed. At the community meeting at Glendale's Environmental Management Center on Flower Street Wednesday night, they said construction should begin this month.

CHANDLER PARK — Residents on Sparks Street in Burbank are bemoaning a proposed bike route that would utilize their street to connect the Chandler Bikeway to the bike route along the Los Angeles River. The route would run along Sparks before cutting across to Beachwood Drive via Alameda Avenue on its way to the river wash near Riverside Drive, Assistant Community Development Director Greg Herrmann said. The bike path would share the roadway with motorists — as opposed to being cordoned off completely — and would be designated by a painted line.
