The freshman from Estonia had personal-best efforts in the girls' 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke. In both events, Sepa finished 17th, just missing qualifying for the championship heat or the consolation final, where the top 16 get automatic berths.

Edgar Melik-Stepanyan When Lindsay Fletcher had to endure hard days of training, she was more than willing to put in the time and effort to improve. But on most other days, the Flintridge Prep star athlete focused more on honing her skills with the San Gabriel Volleyball Club's 18-and-under Roshambo team. The time on the court paid off, as Fletcher signed in April to play volleyball with the University of Miami. Eventually, when the training for track became more intense and the competition became tougher, Fletcher found her niche just in time to master her opponents in two sports.

However, the Burbank High senior's displeasure was only momentary. Although he didn't run his best race against the finest milers in the state Saturday at Cerritos College in Norwalk -- finishing in ninth place in 4 minutes 21.17 seconds -- Ivie chose to look at the bigger picture and relish in his accomplishments this season.

BURBANK — Burbank High track and field runner Greg Dotson qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division I preliminaries in two events. Along with winning the Pacific League championship in the 800 meters, the senior also earned a spot in the competition with a very respectable time in the 1,600. However, when it came down to running at Saturday’s event at Trabuco Hills High, Dotson set his sights on only the 800. Concentrating on his strongest event in hopes of making it to state competition, Dotson had a strong performance in the 800, winning his heat with the second-fastest mark of 1 minute, 54.59 seconds.
