Carly Fiorina, Meg Whitman and even Sen. Scott Brown — the Republican who shocked the political world in January by winning the Massachusetts Senate seat long held by Ted Kennedy — have walked into a Magnolia Boulevard headquarters for the Republican Party of California this year. "That just doesn't happen," said Jane Barnett, chairwoman of the Los Angeles County Republican Committee. "Not in L.A. " Barnett said Meg Whitman has visited the Southland more than 60 times.

Thrift shop gets close-up on show La Providencia Guild of Childrens Hospital Thrift Shop was included in a segment of Mayor Gary Bric’s BTV6 show, “Mayor on the Street,” when he visited the Burbank Boulevard merchants. Sharon Terranova , president, and Dolly Monte , second vice president and the thrift shop chairwoman, explained how all members volunteer hours for the operation of the Childrens Hospital Thrift Shop. Members also design displays in the store’s windows that receive compliments from the shop’s neighbors.

GUILD GIVES MEDICAL CENTER $268,000 A check for $268,000 was presented to Caroline Esparza by Donna Mahoney, president of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild, at the recognition and installation tea June 11 at Lakeside Golf Club. Esparza is administrator of the medical center. Funds were raised by the guild through many events during the year, including the spring fashion show luncheon and the fall dinner dance. The committee is already planning the next fall dinner dance under the theme of "Harvest Moon" planned for Oct. 18 at Lakeside Golf Club.
