A missing 80-year-old Burbank woman was found Saturday afternoon at a Las Vegas casino. BURBANK HIGH SCHOOL The Burbank High School Centennial Committee is organizing its four-day celebration planned from Sept. 11 to 14. Highlights on Sept. 11 include tours of the campus from 3 to 8 p.m., catered dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. and performances by current student groups beginning at 7 p.m. On Sept. 12, highlights are a trivia contest from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. in the library and Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the gym. Generations of alumni from all classes of Burbank High and John Burroughs high schools gathered at Johnny Carson Park on Saturday to reminisce, find old friends and make new ones at the seventh annual All Classes Reunion Picnic. As the temperature rose, between 700 and 800 people took to the shade to mingle with classmates, family and friends, organizers said. Many participants proudly displayed their class year on large placards, while others set up booths and posters to promote the schools' alumni band, scholarship funds or copies of old yearbooks.

When the Burbank Adult School was created in 1937, the United States needed all the skilled workers it could get. With World War II raging just over the ocean, the Burbank Unified School District opened the program with courses like aircraft and ship building, sending its graduates to help build the war supplies needed overseas. "They were teaching the women how to do jobs the men had left behind," said Charoleen Haley, a teacher and office assistant at the school. "They were focused on wartime efforts."
