Police this week arrested a 27-year-old Van Nuys man later determined to be connected to a string of robberies in the city, authorities said. Brian Trevino is being charged with four felony counts of robbery and held in lieu of $225,000 bail, Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada said. Officers at 2:15 p.m. Monday arrested Trevino while investigating a suspicious vehicle in the 3600 block of West Victory Boulevard, Quesada said. There they met a man who matched the description from a previous street robbery.

"The Wendell Baker Story" reminded me of some Wilson brothers' film efforts of the past, most notably "Bottle Rocket," their breakout film from several years ago, and of course "Rushmore," which is probably the best film they were involved with so far. But, I don't feel that it quite holds up to either of those two efforts and it is difficult to recommend without qualification, but I did enjoy this film very much. The humor is dry and goofy, with more than a few laugh-out-loud moments, and as the credits came up at the screening I attended, scattered applause erupted from the audience.

INSIDE/OUT The Glendale branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles is a hulking, brownish, sullen-looking box of a building on Glenoaks Boulevard. As branches go, it's a pretty unimpressive limb. It has almost no exterior windows, no landscaping escape a swath of mottled grass and a couple of shrubs that saw better pastures. If there is anything interesting about it at all, it's that inside is the closest you'll come to hell in Glendale without actually dying.
