Middaugh -- Pascoe Richard and Fleur Middaugh of Vista, formerly of Glendale, have announced the engage- ment of their daughter, Gabrielle, to James Pascoe of Los Angeles. Gabrielle is a 1988 graduate of Crescenta Valley High School. She is a 1992 graduate of UCLA and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York City in 1999. She is employed as manager of website marketing for Buena Vista International Television, which is part of the Walt Disney Co. in Burbank.

Ferreira -- Mehdizadeh Jennifer Ferreira of San Francisco, the daughter of Les and Cindi Ferreira of La Crescenta, and Pooyan Mehdizadeh of San Francisco, the son of Nasser and Mahvash Mehdizadeh of Pacific Palisades, have announced their engagement. The bride-to-be graduated from Crescenta Valley High School in 1992. She received a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from UC Irvine and a degree in medicine from UC San Francisco. She is a surgery resident at UC San Francisco.

Florante O. Cazenas, the son of Chita Noblefranca of Burbank, has joined the U.S. Air Force under the delayed entry program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to enlist and delay going into basic military training for up to one year. Cazenas, a 2003 graduate of John Burroughs High School, has reported for active duty at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Air Force Airman Brent R. Harrill, the son of Lynn Harrill of Glendale, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Jillian E. Canfield has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She is the granddaughter of Barbara Canfield of Norman, Okla., and the daughter of David Canfield of Burbank. Canfield is a 2001 graduate of Norman High School. Air Force Airman Eric M. White has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is the son of Katherine Meyer of La Crescenta and the brother of Christopher White of Spokane, Wash.

Ryan Carter Fire officials, volunteers and organizers are gearing up for the one day of the year when patriotism is displayed in the sky. Two major events will be the cornerstones of this year's Fourth of July ceremonies in Burbank and Glendale. In Burbank, the Starlight Bowl's "Star Spangled Salute to the Fourth of July" will begin at 6:30 p.m. with fireworks at 9 p.m. at the bowl, 1249 Lockheed View Drive. In Glendale, the festivities begin at 4 p.m. at Crescenta Valley High School, 4400 Ramsdell Ave., with the fireworks starting shortly after 9 p.m. The Burbank event will include the Bill Elliot Swing Orchestra, the Alley Cats and the Jokesters leading up to the fireworks display.

Peterson -- Carpenter Emily Beth Peterson of Bakersfield and Kenny Carpenter of La Crescenta were married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santa Monica. A reception was shared with family and friends at the Oakmont Country Club. For their honeymoon, the couple traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They are living in Provo, Utah. The bride is the daughter of Becky Peterson of Bakersfield and the late Kenneth Peterson.

Chris Baker, the son of Paul and Cheryl Baker of La Crescenta, has received the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, he refurbished the equipment shed at Dunsmore Elementary School. He replaced the drywall, painted the interior and repaired and painted the exterior. Baker is a junior at Crescenta Valley High School. He lettered three years in cross-country and track and field, is a scholar athlete and member of the Robotics Club. He attended the 2001 Boy Scout National Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, Va. The tour included a trip to New York and the World Trade Center just one month before Sept.

CONRAD Lauri Kirsten Rockholm of Los Angeles and Jonathan Manak Conrad of El Segundo have announced their plans to marry in January. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ellen and Dr. Jeff Rockholm of Placerville. She graduated from Loretto High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Pepperdine University. She is employed with the Public Health Foundation Enterprises as a dietitian for the Women, Infant and Children program. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Rae and Helen Conrad of La Crescenta.

Army Reserve Lt. Col. Tom R. Mackenzie, son of T.P. and Dee Broe of Riverdale, Ga., and the brother of retired Maj. Bob Mackenzie of Tumwater, Wash., and Rock Mackenzie of Burbank, has completed a tour of duty as a Forces Command liaison officer at the Pentagon. Brian Daniel Waldbaum, who is assigned to the 2nd Air Marine Wing at Cherry Point Marine Air Station in North Carolina, was recently promoted to sergeant. He is an Air Frame specialist working on Harrier Jets.

Lisa Palermo, the daughter of Ross and Donna Lowande of Burbank, made the honor roll for the spring semester at the University of San Diego. Palermo, who is a senior, earned first honors with a grade point average of 3.65 or higher for the semester. She is majoring in accounting. Christopher Oliver, son of Sue and Dennis Oliver of La Crescenta, has received the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Oliver removed climbing holds on climbing walls at Wilson Middle School.
