OLIVE PARK — Burroughs High softball Coach Jose Valle had an inkling that trying to win the program’s first league championship since 1982 wasn’t going to be easy, especially when factoring in Crescenta Valley has held the top spot for the past three seasons. Valle’s suspicion became reality after Crescenta Valley got a two-run single from Sydney House in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 3-1 Pacific League win Wednesday afternoon at Olive Park. “CV took care of business and they got the hit when they needed it,” said Valle, whose team held a one-game lead over crosstown rival Burbank and a two-game bulge over Crescenta Valley entering Wednesday’s competition.

BURBANK — While its dominance temporarily wavered midway through Friday's Pacific League match, the Burroughs High boys' volleyball team regrouped in plenty of time to keep Crescenta Valley from getting close to an upset on the road. And although the Falcons made a strong run at getting back in the match after coming alive down the stretch in the second game, the Indians rediscovered their intensity in the third game to finish off their 25-13, 25-21, 25-17 sweep just as solidly as they began.

BURBANK HIGH — It wasn't a good day at the pool for the Burbank High and Burroughs water polo teams. Both teams lost in the prelims of the Pacific League Tournament on Tuesday at Burbank High. Burbank dropped a close match to Arcadia, 13-10, while Burroughs fell to Crescenta Valley, 14-6. The second-seeded Bulldogs might have been looking ahead to a possible rematch with Crescenta Valley, and failed to focus on the opponent at hand. "There were just some minor mistakes," said Bulldogs Coach Dro Hovanessian, whose team is ranked No. 10 in CIF Southern Section Division VI. "Little mental mistakes are what cost us the game."

LA CRESCENTA — For at least one match, it wasn’t the red and white of Burroughs High taking on the blue and navy of Crescenta Valley in a Pacific League girls’ volleyball match. Instead, both teams were in the pink — literally. The Indians and Falcons players and coaches were decked out in pink and white Thursday as part of the “Dig for the Cure” fundraiser in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Along with holding a raffle for various prizes at the match at Crescenta Valley, the athletes from both squads solicited donations for digs accumulated during the league contest.

BURBANK HIGH ? Performing on the Burbank High baseball field seems to bring out the best in Crescenta Valley starting pitcher Travis Feldman. The senior right-hander doesn?t mind pitching on the field at night and showed he can handle himself well with the bat in key situations, as well. Feldman struck out five in six innings and delivered a key two-run double in the first inning to spark Crescenta Valley to a 9-2 win against Burbank on Friday night in a Pacific League opener for both teams.

MEMORIAL FIELD ? The Burroughs and Crescenta Valley high boys' soccer teams came into their Pacific League match Monday hungry. It has been six years since the Falcons qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs and the Indians haven't had a taste of the postseason since 2003. Now, however, both teams are still very much in the postseason hunt. To make the contest even more meaningful, the teams went into battle still having outside shots at winning a league championship.
