NADINE A. ROSS Nadine A. Ross, 89, died June 16, 2002 in Burbank. She was born Nov. 3, 1912 in Mitchellville, Iowa. Prior to retiring, she was a secretary for the Burbank Unified School District. She is survived by her son, Allen Ross and her daughter, Joy Hall. Funeral and burial services were Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, Hollywood Hills. LENA M. CARTER Lena M. Carter, 80, a former Burbank resident, died June 11, 2002, in North Hollywood.

BURBANK — An otherwise civil forum hosted by a local civic group in Burbank on Thursday night erupted into a contentious back-and-forth between Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman and his rival, Republican Navraj Singh, who repeatedly lobbed corruption charges against the congressman, who vigorously denied the allegations. During his opening statement at the Glendale/Burbank League of Women Voters forum, which also featured candidates from the neighboring 29th District, Singh alleged that he paid a campaign donor $5,000 two years ago to facilitate a meeting with Sherman.

William Richard Kokott William Richard Kokott died on Aug. 6, 2005, in Burbank. Kokott was born on March 2, 1944, in Denver, Colo. and moved to Glendale when he was 3. He was preceded in death by his parents Muriel and William Kokott and his sister Helen Shareck. Kokott is survived by his wife Rickie of 27 years, sister Joanne Roberts, sons Danny, David, Sean and Todd; daughter-in-law Emily and three grand children, Erin, Lauren and Daniel. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. at the Valley Funeral Home, 2121 W. Burbank Blvd.

TOM AND MARIE ROBSON Tom and Marie Robson celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on July 13 at The Castaway restaurant. The couple has lived in Burbank since 1949. Tom, a World War II Coast Guard veteran, retired from Pacific Telephone Co. in March 1978 after more than 36 years of service. Marie, a Minnesota native, also was employed by Pac Bell, retiring in 1950 to become a homemaker and mother. The couple were married in Reno, Nev., at the Methodist Church in 1948.

WANDA HAWKES BARRETT Wanda Hawkes Barrett died Dec. 2, 2004. She was 84. Barrett was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Taylor, Utah, and was a resident of Burbank for more than 50 years. She worked at Southern Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles for more than 30 years. Barrett was an active member of her church and loved hobbies like sewing and upholstering. She is survived by her sister, Ursul Wilkinson; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Susan Barrett; and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Spencer, Nathan and Breanne Barrett.

I can't believe there's a sidewalk across our front yard now on Screenland Drive. It was a long, hard struggle. My son and daughter-in-law want to know how soon it will be stroller ready. We, the school kids and the handicapped thank Mayor Emily Gable-Luddy, Councilman Jess Talamantes and Councilman Gary Bric. Future generations of school kids will never know or care why there are now sidewalks on Screenland - they will just enjoy not walking in the street or across wet grass. Tim Elliott Burbank

A woman reportedly died in a house fire in Burbank Saturday night and her son and daughter-in-law were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Burbank firefighters battled the blaze at 910 Evergreen St, where the house was fully engulfed.  An Animal Control officer were reportedly called for a deceased dog. OWEN AND CAROL CLARKE Owen and Carol Clarke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends at a dinner party at Genio's Restaurant. The couple have lived in Burbank for 49 years. Those attending the anniversary party were their eldest daughter, Susan, and her husband, Jef Vander Borght; another daughter, Bonnie Adkins; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kelli Clarke; longtime friends, Dorothy Gallup and Nancy Strasser; Carol's sister, Claudia Stiver; and their grandchildren, Jill, Kary and Kyle Vander Borght, Jef Radino and Amy and Erin Clarke.

The 69-year-old woman who died in a house fire in Burbank Saturday night was identified Monday as Irmhild Marcaccio, authorities said. Burbank firefighters battled the blaze at 910 Evergreen St., where the house was fully engulfed. Marcaccio's son and daughter-in-law were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An animal control officer was reportedly called for a deceased dog. Neighbors told KTLA-TV that residents of the house used candles for light because they had no electricity.

GLEN C. SORKNESS Glen C. Sorkness died Dec. 21, 2004. He was 50. Sorkness was born July 3, 1954, in Los Angeles and was a graduate of Burbank High School in 1972. Sorkness retired from the Burbank Police Department this year after 31 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn Sorkness; son, David; daughter, Mallory; mother, Ruth Sorkness; brother, Alan; sister-in-law, Sandy; nieces, Shelby and Erikka. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Funeral Home, 2121 W. Burbank Blvd.
