With the popularity of the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” and Fox Network’s “Glee,” here’s an idea that may have slipped under your radar — you can attend live music programs at our two high schools that will match the quality of the TV shows, note for note, featuring authentic, iPod-carrying high school kids with acne and everything! Wow, what a concept! OK, maybe they don’t have hundred-thousand-dollar contracts and they’re not 20-somethings pretending to be 15, but they do a mighty respectable job at a bargain price.

Laura Sturza Council chambers were filled to capacity Tuesday with an overflow of 30 people in City Hall's rotunda for a marathon City Council review to decide the fate of a proposed four-acre, $200-million development. Council members were halfway through considering the statements of more than 30 residents who favored and opposed the Burbank Media Center at 10:30 p.m. Though the center, proposed by the Platt Companies, was voted down last year 5-0 by the city's Planning Board, it has been revised to address concerns from the board and residents, said city staff and Platt officials.

"The success of my time as mayor is if I will be able to convince a few people to give up their automobiles for a few trips," Vander Borght said. "I'm hoping to make some converts to alternative ways of transportation." Vander Borght, 53, was chosen mayor by his four City Council colleagues at a reorganization meeting Monday and chaired his first council meeting Tuesday night.

The teenagers who inspired the hit Fox series "Glee" had another winning performance last weekend, bringing two shows to a packed auditorium at Burroughs High School. It was the fifth annual "Burroughs on Broadway" extravaganza, and despite some technical glitches, the performances went off without a hitch. The program began with a sexy number from the hit Broadway musical "Nine", "Be Italian", with a sultry solo delivered by Amanda Alvarez, and backed up by her group, "Sound Sensations," proving that if you have the talent you can deliver a truly top-of-the-line number after only a few weeks of preparation.
