The Burbank Civitan Club had its installation of officers on Oct. 3 at the Holiday Inn in Burbank. The newly installed officers are President David Holland , President-Elect Randy Garcia , Secretary DeeDee Ruhlow , Treasurer Shari Epstein , and Immediate Past President Elaine Paonessa . Their term continues through Sept. 30. Each year, the Burbank Civitan Club hosts the Graduation Dance for the B.C.R. ? a place to grow and the Annual Baseball Jamboree for more than 1,000 young baseball players.

A sewage pipe burst on South Beachwood Drive between Parkside Avenue and West Alameda Avenue midday Tuesday, sending sewage down curbsides as crews worked to keep the mess out of storm drains. Public works employees from Burbank and Los Angeles County are working to divert the spill away from the storm drains, said city spokesman Keith Sterling. The pipe burst about 11:20 a.m. The sewage is collecting at the intersection of South Beachwood Drive and West Riverside Drive, but has filled the curbside area along South Griffith Park Drive.

Most of the service clubs spent December spreading cheer and extending a helping hand to those in need. ? BURBANK OPTIMISTS The members of the Burbank Optimist Club adopted a family and provided them with baskets loaded with gifts as well as food. They gathered at their Dec. 10 meeting to put it all together so it could be delivered. They were assisted by new member Janet Diel and her husband and son. Janet is a former member, and the Optimists are happy to welcome her back into the fold.
